Franchises

Features and Mechanics

  • New Year 2 and Year 3 Story Mode Levels with new Foundation Elements and Minikits to collect and new Citizens in Peril to save.
  • New Year 3 Adventure Worlds which are expanded and comprise more interior locations with new Year 3 Gold Bricks and Red Bricks to collect.
  • New Race Track mode which has new tracks able to be unlocked by new playable Year 3 Characters, except new Year 3 Fun Pack and Polybag Characters, with a new Race Shop where players can purchase special features corresponding to each new Year 3 franchise to improve and change the gameplay in the Race Tracks.
  • New Custom Pack sets which include Toy Tags for 1 Custom Character, 1 Custom Vehicle, and 1 Custom Gadget or Toy Tags for 2 Custom Characters and 1 Custom Vehicle or Gadget. Custom Characters, Custom Vehicles, and Custom Gadgets can all be customized in their corresponding Customization Chambers, which function similar to the Customization Chamber from LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 with slight modifications and improvements to fit with the game.
  • New Year 3 hub area known as The Arch, which is accessed from The Shard by using a new Aerial Faith Plate (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch) or by going through a new portal (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U). Both the Aerial Faith Plate and the portal are located in between the Ghostbusters (2016) and The A-Team portals on their respective versions. All of the Year 3 Adventure World portals, the Race Track module, the Trophy Room, and the Customization Chambers are located there.
  • New Set collection list in the LEGO Gateway Menu, which keeps track of each Set players have collected for the game based on which characters they've placed on the Toy Pad, and functions similar to the collection list from LEGO Dimensions Collection Vortex. Players can also remove any Set from the list, however, they can be readded by replacing a Character included in the Set back on the Toy Pad.
  • New Vortech Token collectibles which can be used to unlock upgrades and level up paths for all Characters, and are located throughout all of the Levels and Adventure Worlds. The upgrades menu can be accessed by pausing the game and clicking on the Upgrades option or by going to the Character Upgrades section in the LEGO Gateway Menu on Vorton whilst the level up menu can be accessed by pausing the game and clicking on the Stats option, while both function similar to the upgrade menu from The LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game.
  • New Gold Brick construct structures which can be unlocked in each of the Adventure Worlds upon collecting all of the Gold Bricks in them. They can be displayed by using the Collectible Plinths (formerly called Minikit Plinths).
  • New Trophy Room location where all of the Minikit and Gold Brick constructs are displayed and can be viewed on various Collectible Plinths.
  • New port of the game for the Nintendo Switch, which doesn't require the Toy Pad or Toy Pad Builds. Instead, all Characters, Vehicles, and Gadgets can be scanned into the game via the NFC touchpoints on the Joy-Con and Pro Controller (with a software update download required) and will be stored in a LEGO Gateway collection tooltip, which is located in the top left corner of the screen. Additionally, the player is not required to go through the Toy Pad Build instructions in the Levels and can simply skip them. Keystones can still be used properly by using an on-screen Toy Pad.
  • Supergirl and all playable in-game characters are now displayed in the Character collection screen in the LEGO Gateway Menu on all versions of the game, with their own specific spotlights, ability lists, object information, and unlocks information provided.

Trivia

  • There is a total of 25 new franchises introduced in Year 3, having a total of 55 franchises in the game altogether. There is a total of 56 franchises altogether if counting LEGO Dimensions, although it is not a traditional franchise.
  • Various franchises were planned to be included in Year 3 throughout its various stages of development, however, they were ultimately scrapped for the current franchise roster. Scrapped franchises might still be made into separate customs apart from Year 3. Additionally, a fourth year was also planned, but quickly became scrapped following the acquisition of Time Warner by AT&T, with those franchises sharing the same fate.
